Dead woman, 4 injured in an accident on I-20; 16-year-old kid in jail – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

A woman died and her four passengers were injured on Sunday morning after officials said a 16-year-old boy entered the body of his truck and fled on foot without stopping to help.

The accident happened around 12:45 pm on Interstate 20, near the Hampton Road exit in Red Bird.

Researchers say a 2007 orange Nissan hit the left rear of a Ford F-150, which caused the two vehicles to turn to the right and turn. The truck overturned on a landfill before stopping upside down, according to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department.

The driver, a 50-year-old woman whose name has not been released, died at the scene.

An 11-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy were taken to Children’s Health, and an 18-year-old man and a 37-year-old man were taken to the Methodist Dallas Medical Center. All were hospitalized in stable condition, said the sheriff’s department.

Several witnesses told authorities that they saw the Nissan driver get out and escape after the accident.

Subsequently, Dallas police found and detained the driver, who was taken first to the hospital as a precaution and then to the Henry Wade Youth Justice Center.

The teenager, whose identity has not been released because he is a minor, faces an accusation of an accident involving death from not stopping and providing help, officials said.
