New York Mayor Bill de Blasio asked Governor Andrew Cuomo to resign on Thursday after a complaint from the sixth woman accusing him of sexual misconduct.
Although de Blasio recently discussed the idea of Cuomo resigning after previous charges against him, the mayor said the last charge is too much and he should go.

“It is disgusting to me. And he can no longer serve as governor. It is as simple as that,” said de Blasio during a news conference.
The mayor spoke to the sheer volume of accusations that have emerged in the past week, while looking at the seriousness of the latest complaint that Cuomo allegedly reached under the shirt of an employee and groped it after inviting her to work at the governor’s mansion for a related purpose.

“The last report, and the fact that we can talk about how many people are bringing charges, that it is not one, it is not two, it is not three, it is not four, it is not five, it is six women who have come forward, it is deeply worrying “said de Blasio. “The specific claim that the governor called his employee – someone over whom he had power – called them to a private place and then sexually assaulted her is absolutely unacceptable.”

The mayor noted that the controversy surrounding Cuomo’s leadership was not limited to accusations of sexual harassment and assault. He faced strong criticism and requests for impeachment because of the treatment he gave to nursing homes during the early months of the coronavirus pandemic and the failure of his administration to provide accurate numbers of deaths in nursing homes.
“I think we saw so many, so many worrying things that came up in a matter of weeks, starting with the fact that thousands of people died in nursing homes and we still don’t have the truth about it, and their families need and deserve the truth,” said de Blasio . “And we know one thing, that there was a deliberate cover-up and that in itself is unacceptable and disqualifying.”

At least 85 members of the New York State Assembly and Senate have asked for Cuomo’s resignation or impeachment. Now, de Blasio officially joins the choir.
“He just can’t serve as governor anymore,” he said.
