President Donald Trump was due to undergo a second impeachment after being “recorded on tape trying to defraud a presidential election,” Washington’s Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics watchdog group said on Sunday.
The demand comes after the release of a recording that shows Trump pleading with Georgia’s election official Brad Raffensperger to “find” more votes for him so he can claim victory in a state that lost by almost 13,000 votes.
“There’s nothing wrong with saying … that you recalculated,” Trump said on Saturday’s call.
CREW, a self-styled crusade against “government officials who sacrifice the common good for special interests,” said this was reason enough to remove Trump from office before President-elect Joe Biden took office on January 20.
“Although the logistics of carrying out the impeachment process in the final two weeks of a presidency are admittedly difficult to carry out, if this is not an objectionable conduct, then literally nothing is,” said CREW Executive Director Noah Bookbinder in a statement . “Congress must act immediately.”
