Investigators did not indicate what the man was doing outside Observatory Number One Circle. However, a DC police source told FOX 5 that the man told uniformed Secret Service members that he wanted to speak to the president.

According to internal police reports obtained by FOX 5, Murray reportedly had paranoid delusions and thought the government was after him. He bought an AR-15 and told his mother that he was in Washington to “take care of his problem”.

Authorities say Murray was an Army drone operator who started service in 2010 and was discharged in 2014. Documents say he recently complained to the police that he was not receiving support from Veteran’s Affairs and was not taking prescription drugs.
