DC Mayor Muriel Bowser said on Wednesday that she was declaring Christmas Eve a day to honor Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of the White House’s top coronavirus consultants.
“In honor of Dr. Fauci’s 80th birthday tomorrow, I proclaim Thursday, December 24, 2020, ‘Dr. Anthony S. Fauci’s Day’ in Washington, DC,” she tweeted, along with a photo of Fauci and the proclamation.
“We are extremely proud to have Dr. Fauci among the many DC residents who are sacrificing so much to keep our communities healthy and safe.”

The proclamation praises Fauci as someone who “has been a bright light for the nation in difficult times, promoting the truth about fear and giving Americans hope in government”.
His comments were made when Fauci saw a show of public support, including from Time magazine, which dubbed him “Guardian of the Year” on its front page.
Fauci has been one of the most controversial figures during the pandemic, as he clashed with President Trump over the issue and promoted controversial blocking measures.

The outpouring of support has led some to the wrong side. “This is a strange religion,” tweeted Greg Price of the Daily Caller.
“In the US, we call December 24 ‘Christmas Eve’,” his colleague, Mary Margaret Olohan, told Bowser.
