DC car theft victim thrown from car to death, teenagers accused of his murder: police

Horrific new details emerged on Thursday in the car theft by two teenagers that led to the death of an Uber Eats delivery driver in Washington, DC earlier this week.

The suspects, who the police say are between 13 and 15, were charged with murder in the death of Mohammad Anwar, 66.

Mohammad Anwar immigrated to the USA in 2014.

One of the girls told DC police officers that they went out with a stun gun to steal a car on Tuesday, according to testimony from Detective Chad Leo of the homicide unit.

The girls got into Anwar’s car at about 4:30 pm at the Navy Yard Metro Station while he delivered, Leo said.

Anwar took the girls to Nationals Park, where he stopped the car and a fight broke out between them. Authorities, quoting the police, said Anwar partially left the car and got stuck between the door and the driver’s seat while the teenagers allegedly started the vehicle, the New York Post reported.

The car then swerved forward, causing Anwar to be fatally thrown when the car made a sharp right turn, causing him to flip over on his side and crash into two parked cars.

Authorities arrived at the scene and found Anwar suffering from “life-threatening injuries,” police said. DC Emergency Medical and Fire Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

National Guard troops who happened to be in the area removed the two girls from the wrecked car. The teenagers are accused of willful murder and armed car theft and are in custody pending the next court date on March 31.
