DC Announces Batman ’89 and Superman ’78 Digital First Series

DC announced the first digital series Batman ’89, by Sam Hamm and Joe Quinones, and Superman ’78, by Robert Venditti and Wilfredo Torres.

DC announced two new first digital series inspired in 1989 bat Man and 1978 Superman films, respectively.

Batman ’89 is written by Sam Hamm and illustrated by Joe Quinones while Superman ’78 is written by Robert Venditti and illustrated by Wilfredo Torres. Both titles will debut six digital chapters on July 27, with six additional chapters arriving weekly thereafter. Once all 12 chapters of each story have been released, they will be brought together in six traditional comics released between August and October and then as hardcover editions in October for Batman ’89 and november for Superman ’78.

The official synopses for each title are below:

Continuing the twisted adventures of the DC Dark Knight from the seminal classic of Tim Burton bat Man films, Batman ’89 brings screenwriter Sam Hamm (Batman, Batman Returns) and artist Joe Quinones (Dial H for Hero) to pull a series of threads left hanging by the prolific director. The Gothic mindset behind the world, while still rooted in a sense of realism, helped inform many of DC’s global fans’ first impressions of Gotham from the Dark Knight. In New Batman ’89 comics, Hamm and Quinones will help bring the return of Selina Kyle / Catwoman and debut a new Robin! In addition, Quinones has a vision for Harvey Dent / Two-Face that is as close to the magic of cinema as a comic can get!

And in line with DC’s plans for Batman ’89, Rob Venditti (Hawkman) and Wilfredo Torres (Batman 66) will collaborate on Superman ’78 to tell stories set in the world that Richard Donner and Christopher Reeves created in Superman: the Movie. At the Superman ’78, viewers are surprised and delighted with Superman’s abilities, and Lois Lane doesn’t know (yet!) that Clark Kent is secretly Superman. The pure emotion of watching a man fly, jump or stop a bullet will be reflected in this environment where Superman has just been introduced! Inspired by Donner’s classic and timeless style of telling superhero stories, in Superman ’78 Venditti and Torres will show fans that a man can really fly.
