Day adds a third assistant to the force team

South Carolina strength and conditioning coach Luke Day continues to form its team of assistants. On Thursday night, Day’s assistant strength coach at Marshall in 2020, Nate Sedergren, tweeted that he is joining the Gamecocks football program.

Other well-known members of Day’s team are former Gamecocks defensive strikers Byron Jerideau and 27-year-old NFL strength coach Chip Morton, with whom Day worked in Cincinnati.

Sedergren spent only one season in Marshall, according to his biography on herdzone.com. Prior to training for Herd, he worked at UT Martin from the summer of 2015 and was promoted to Director of Sports Performance for Football and Baseball in October 2018. Sedergren is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through Strength National and Conditioning Association. Sedergren also has a level 1 performance trainer certification through the United States (USAW) weightlifting.

Before going to UT Martin, Sedergren worked as an assistant strength coach at Gardner-Webb University under the guidance of strength coach Ben Sowders. While at Gardner-Webb, Sedergren helped with football and men’s basketball. He was responsible for women’s basketball training, men’s and women’s athletics, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s golf and softball teams. Sedergren played college football at Western Carolina University, where he was a linebacker and team captain in his senior year. During his time in West Carolina, Sedergren was trained by Master Strength Trainer, Brad Orht, who is now the Chief Strength Trainer at Northern Illinois University, and Jeff Pittman, who is currently the Chief Strength Trainer at Boise State. Sedergren graduated from Western Carolina in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in communications and a specialization in coaching.
