Texas surpassed the psychological record by 31.5 points and obtained 22 dive points on Saturday to secure the title per team in the 2021 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship. The Longhorns continued their streak of placing at least one swimmer or diver in the top 8 of each event, including diving and free distance.

Cal also scored 30.5 on psychological counts on Saturday, but it was not enough to bridge the gap that separated them from Texas. Still, the Golden Bears had a competitive race to the end, outperforming the qualifiers to the finals by 18 points.

Other big winners in terms of the psychology sheet’s expectations were Virginia Tech, Arizona, Stanford, Florida and Virginia. Ohio State placed three divers in the top 8 of the platform diving event and scored 39 points to overtake NC State and Texas A&M in the standings. Purdue scored 37 points per dive, with a 1-2 finish from his only participants in the event.

Michigan’s relay was disqualified and Georgia’s did not score, which helps explain why these teams underperformed on Day 4’s psychological record by 32 and 28 points, respectively. Louisville also had a 28 point hitting streak when none of his freestylers scored and Evgenii Somov did not swim in the chest of 200. Alabama lost 22 points.
