David Perdue says he is “considering” another Senate run in 2022

Former Senator David Perdue (R-Ga.) announced on Twitter Tuesday he is “considering” a 2022 offer to claim a different seat in the Senate after losing Georgia’s run-off election to Senator Jon Ossoff, a Democrat.

Why it matters: The 2022 election will play a key role in determining which party controls the Senate after Republicans lost two seats in Georgia to Democrats last month.

  • Perdue would challenge Senator Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) Who defeated Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) In a special January 5 election, in case he decides to run.
  • The former senator filed the campaign paperwork on Monday, saying it was a “necessary legal measure” so that he could keep the option open.

What is he saying: “First of all, Georgia is not a blue state and yet, as I write this today, the people of Georgia are represented by two of the most radically liberal individuals who have ever occupied a seat on the sacred floor of the United States Senate,” wrote Perdue on Twitter. “They do not fairly represent the majority of Georgians.”

In his Twitter statement, Perdue also argued that Republicans need to win back the Senate “to change the direction of the country” and criticized President Biden for “yielding to the radical side of the Democratic Party”.

What to watch: “In the coming weeks, Bonnie and I will diligently consider our options on how to best serve the people of Georgia,” he said.
