David Letterman is getting some reactions on social media because of a resurgent interview with Lindsay Lohan, in which he apparently mocked her for going to rehab.
The interview was from a 2013 episode of “The Late Show”, in which the star was available to talk about his new film and TV project before a very public rehab. The troubled star has been in and out of treatment since 2007, amid a flood of public gaffes and addiction problems.
On Saturday, a Twitter user named Trey Taylor uploaded a video showing excerpts from the interview in which Letterman appears to have come out of the book and makes fun of Lohan’s addiction, although she clearly becomes uncomfortable.
“Shouldn’t you be in rehab now?” the host asks.
“You don’t watch anything that happens?” an apparently angry Lohan tells him. “What are you a tabloid for now?”

Despite his frustration, Letterman continues to pressure Lohan, asking repeated questions like “How long will you be in rehab?” “How many times have you been to rehab?” and “How will it be different this time?”
At the time, she agreed to spend 90 days in rehab to avoid jail time for a car accident the previous year.

“What are they rehabilitating in the first place? What’s on their list? What will they work on when you walk through the door?” he asks.
“We didn’t discuss this in the pre-interview, just saying,” Lohan says as he looks at someone off camera.
Lohan continued, “I think, to be honest, I’m happier when I’m working and healthier and I think this is an opportunity to, you know, focus on what I love in life and I don’t think it’s a bad thing. I think it’s a blessing. ”
Relentless, the clip shows Letterman continuing to pressure the actress to talk about rehab and her wild lifestyle. She keeps trying to end the line of questioning amusingly, telling him that they had discussed this in the past.
“Really? When was it? Now I’m the one having blackouts. I should be in rehab, for God’s sake,” he says.
“We’re here for a movie,” Lohan replies. “Let’s be positive.”
Letterman then tried to kick things off to a pre-planned segment, but the actress pulled her notes out of him to inspect them first after the surprise rehab questions. When Letterman recovered them and tried to start the segment minutes later, Lohan tapped his foot.

“You can’t joke about it, this is so cruel,” she said. “No, you are not doing this. We are not doing this. No, it is my show now.”
While both celebrities kept things fun, Lohan finally started to cry as the host continued to nudge her with rehab jokes. The reappeared clip sparked some extreme reactions from people on social media when his name started to become a trend on Twitter.
“Ugh, that makes me very sad. Shame on David Letterman and shame on his show for the clapping and laughing during the interview,” a user wrote.
“There to discuss and be interviewed about a film and David Letterman disregards it to focus on his personal battles, knowing that she is still dealing with them. I have no interest in this type of journalism, publicly embarrassing and uncomfortable for someone,” wrote another.

“I mean that David Letterman can make mistakes, but he’s been on TV forever. I mean this may be the norm in 2013, but it’s painful to watch. Let’s all learn from it,” a third person wrote.
“I never cared about David Lettermàn. I hope he has learned and grown since then,” someone else wrote.
