The child pornography suspect in Florida who ambushed FBI agents carrying out a search warrant in his apartment on Tuesday morning, killing two, was identified as David Lee Huber, according to several reports.
Huber, a 55-year-old man who ran a computer consulting firm, is accused of shooting five federal agents in an attempt to execute a search and seizure warrant ordered by a federal court as part of an investigation of child pornography.
Law enforcement sources told the Miami Herald that Huber installed a camera on his doorbell and was monitoring the agents as they approached his unit at the Water Terrace apartment complex at about 6 am on Tuesday. He then opened fire with an assault weapon through the closed door, before killing himself.
During the deadly incident, Huber shot dead Special Agent Daniel Alfin and Special Agent Laura Schwartzenberger. Three other officers were injured, including two who were transported to a hospital in stable condition. The third agent did not need hospitalization, the FBI said.
One of the injured agents he was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday.
“Dan and Laura left the house this morning to carry out the mission for which they signed up,” said Miami FBI special agent George Piro during a news conference on Tuesday. “We will always honor them.”
Huber was first identified by Miami Herald and the Sun-Sentinel, which cited law enforcement sources. The FBI declined the Daily Beast’s request for comment. A Sunrise police spokesman confirmed to The Daily Beast that the sniper died of suicide after shooting five FBI agents.
According to public records, Huber spent most of his life in South Florida. The computer consultant, who had a pilot’s license, married in late 2000 and divorced a decade later. He registered two computer consulting firms, including Huber Computer Consulting and COMPUTER TROUBLESHOOTERS 0512 INC, although both are now inactive.
As first reported by Miami Herald, Huber’s previous disagreements with the law are limited to minor offenses. Court records show that Huber received two traffic tickets in 2016. The fines say Huber moved to his unit at the Water Terrace apartment complex – where the shooting occurred – that same year.
