Arms control activist David Hogg says he’s starting a pillow fight – against MyPillow CEO and Trump supporter Mike Lindell. The 20 year old said on Twitter he’s starting a pillow company, hiring Lindell.
Hogg, who survived the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, started tweeting about pillows on Tuesday, tweeting: “Question from Radom: what are your main complaints about your pillow (s) current (s)? ” His tweet came the same day that Lindell – a Trump supporter – brought theories of electoral conspiracy during an interview on Newsmax, a conservative cable channel.
Hogg then said that he was looking for a consultant, and later said that he is opening a company with a businessman William LeGate.
“I’m looking to hire a consultant with experience in the United States manufacturing industry who can refer me – and help coordinate – the manufacture of a large volume of rectangular neck supports, manufactured in a sustainable way, for bedtime,” Hogg tweeted on Tuesday, asking interested parties to contact LeGate.
On Thursday, he shared more details about the company, tweeting that the pillows will be manufactured by the union in America and that the company will focus on supporting progressive causes. He also said he “will not attempt to overthrow the white supremacy of the United States government”, apparently criticizing Trump supporters like Lindell, who believed in unfounded allegations of electoral fraud. Some of these supporters broke into the United States Capitol on January 6, breaching security in a violent riot.
Hogg also said he “hopes to hire the former inceaserateb [sic] people, veterinarians and workers from my pillow in the case of putting them out of the market, but we need to work on logistics more in production and other things. “
Lindell responded to Hogg’s plans for a pillow company, saying to Axios, “Good for them … nothing wrong with competition that doesn’t infringe someone’s patent.”
Hogg tweeted Axios article on Thursday, writing: “Mike, the ‘pillow guy’ is commenting on his progressive competition in the form of a progressive pillow company @williamlegate and I’m starting. This pillow fight became very real. ”
Hogg said in a tweet that he and LaGate do not yet have a name for the company. “We want to get the pillow out as soon as possible, but we are not going to sacrifice quality for time,” he wrote in another tweet. “It is also surprisingly difficult to find a unionized pillow manufacturer in the United States, but we will keep looking. It will take time.”
CBS News contacted Hogg and LeGate, as well as Lindell, through MyPillow. A MyPillow representative did not comment on Hogg’s plans for the company, and Hogg and LeGate did not immediately respond to the request for comment.
Hogg publicly took on others who propagated conspiracy theories. “Today we started a pillow company and removed MTG from all committee assignments. We will bring down all these rebels with the power of the free market that they claim to love, ”Hogg tweeted in Thursday, referring to Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who was removed from its House committee assignments after social media posts and videos taken before she was elected to Congress resurfaced, showing that she embraced a number of far-right conspiracy theories and suggested support for violence against Democrats.
Greene was also seen in a video confronting Hogg at the U.S. Capitol in 2019. The video, which resurfaced last month, shows Greene making false claims and following Hogg, who became one of the leaders of the March for Our Lives movement after a sniper opened fire at his school, killing 17 people.
