Officially, the attitude of the Texans towards the disgruntled quarterback Deshaun Watson is that they are keeping him, not changing him. But that stance is beginning to soften.
That’s the word of NFL Media’s Jim Trotter, who interviewed Texas head coach David Culley for a podcast that will be posted later today. Trotter wrote on Twitter that, based on the conversation they had for the podcast, “I firmly believe that Deshaun Watson will be negotiated. “
Culley did not say that Watson will be negotiated, but Culley’s choice of words implied that Watson may not be Texan much longer. Culley referred to Watson being on the “now” list and indicated that Texans don’t want a franchise quarterback who doesn’t want to be there, saying, “We want guys who have it all in.”
Watson is one of the best young defenders in the NFL, and if Texans are willing to negotiate, they can get a huge reward from players and choices in the draft. Culley’s comments suggest that the team may be coming to the conclusion that the way to rebuild is to grant Watson’s wish and exchange it.
