David Bowie’s ex-wife Angie SLAMS ‘boring’ biopic and claims the late singer ‘wouldn’t have seen it’

David Bowie’s ex-wife Angie criticized the biographical film Stardust, claiming that the late musician “would never have watched”.

In a new interview, the former model, 71, who was married to the rock icon from 1970 to 1980, described the film “boring” as “sadder than a documentary by a star” and insisted on the efforts of director Gabriel Range to portray his life were ‘a waste of time’.

The film follows the musician, played by Johnny Flynn, as he tries to enter the United States music industry in 1971, while being plagued by doubts about his identity before the rise of his iconic alter ego Ziggy Stardust.

The American media personality – who was informed of the death of her ex-husband while on Celebrity Big Brother four years ago – told The Mirror: ‘It was a total waste of time. David would never have watched.

“The only people who would be watching are people obsessed with celebrities. Bowie was a musician. And where was the music? It was boring.

– I didn’t find anything fun. It’s sadder than a star documentary. It was very neutral and bland and without music, there is nothing. ‘

Shortly before its release last year, it was revealed that Bowie’s family did not approve of the drama and the executive had no rights to his music.

Reality star Angie also accused the film of ‘focusing on too many drugs’ and denied claims that she was treated as a slave during their relationship.

The journalist reflected on the ‘light’ moment in her life when she admitted that she ‘didn’t want to be a queen’ and tried to pursue a successful career as an actress and director.

After the end of the novel, composer David had a relationship with supermodel Iman, 65, from 1990 until his death. Meanwhile, Angie has maintained a relationship with longtime partner Michael Gassett since 1993.

MailOnline contacted IFC Films for further comments. Bowie is played by singer and actor Johnny, while Jena Malone, from Pride and Prejudice, plays Angie.

Along with his band Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit, Johnny is also known for roles in Lovesick, Genius and, more recently, the period drama Emma.

Despite portraying the early days of Bowie’s career, his son Duncan Jones insisted that the family had no involvement in the production of the film.

Legendary artist David passed away in January 2016 at the age of 69 after battling liver cancer, just two days after the release of his acclaimed album Blackstar.

Stardust was directed by filmmaker Gabriel, who said in a statement to Variety that he is struggling to see the story behind one of Bowie’s most famous characters.

The writer said: ‘I started making a film about what makes someone become an artist; what really drives them to do their art.

‘That someone is David Bowie, a man we are used to thinking of as the star he has become, or as one of his alter egos: Ziggy Stardust; Aladdin Zane; The Slim White Duke.

‘Someone I just saw from a great distance, behind a mask; a divine alien presence. Even in his perfectly choreographed death, he did not look like a normal human being. ‘

Stardust was scheduled to open at the Tribeca Film Festival in October, but the event was canceled due to the outbreak of COVID-19. It was released a month later by IFC Films.
