David Boreanaz supports Charisma Carpenter after allegations by Joss Whedon

In the wake of accusations of abuse by his Angel co-star Charisma Carpenter against Joss Whedon, David Boreanaz praised his strength.

Actor David Boreanaz followed his Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel co-star offering support to Charisma Carpenter following her recent allegations of abuse against Joss Whedon.

“I’m here to listen and support” Boreanaz responded to Carpenter’s original post about the abuse she received from director Joss Whedon. “Proud of his strength,” he added.

Boreanaz starred in Angel’s lead role in Buffy before leaving the show as a regular in its fourth season to star in its secondary series. Carpenter reprized her Buffy Cordelia Chase’s role for four total seasons of the detective-themed spinoff, with a special appearance in an episode in Season 5 to deal with her sudden departure from the series.

On February 10, Carpenter posted his first-hand experience of his “traumatizing” time with Whedon on Buffy and Angel. His post focused on Whedon’s alleged “abuse of power” on set. Carpenter claimed that Whedon called her “fat” while she was pregnant in Angel and “pitted people against each other to compete and compete for their attention and approval”. She also said that he ignored her request to shorten her working hours during pregnancy and fired her after giving birth, saying she “sabotaged” the program when she got pregnant.

Shortly after Carpenter’s post, several co-stars came together to say that they also saw “toxicity” in Buffy set, including actor Amber Benson. In the following days, actor Michelle Trachtenberg cited a disturbing fixed rule that stated: “[Whedon’s] you cannot be alone with Michelle again. “She shared the rule on her Instagram, saying that what he did was” bad. “Trachtenberg portrayed Buffy Summer’s younger sister (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and, like her role, was about 15 years old while on the set of Buffy.

BuffyLead actress Sarah Michelle Gellar expressed support on Instagram as well, noting: “While I’m proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don’t want to be associated with the name Joss Whedon forever.”

Boreanaz’s response marked Carpenter’s latest co-star in public support. James Marsters, known as Spike to Buffy and Angel fans, and Anthony Stewart Head, known as Rupert Giles, also recently lent his public support to Carpenter. In the midst of Whedon’s claims, Head said, “This is not a man saying, ‘I didn’t see it, so it didn’t happen.’ It’s just … I can’t … I’m gutted. I’m seriously gutted. “He added that he felt like a” father figure “and wondered how he missed such behavior.

At the time of this writing, Whedon has not yet responded to Carpenter’s allegations.
