Dave Grohl vividly remembered visiting Lemmy Kilmister at the Motorhead bassist’s messy apartment in Los Angeles. “I was shocked at how disgusting that was,” said the Foo Fighters frontman in an excerpt from the new issue of Classic rock.
“These aisles of magazines and VHS tapes, stacked one to three feet tall, Lemmy sitting on the couch, in his black bikini underwear with a spider web, after dyeing his hair black, giving a telephone interview , with a video game take a break on television. “
After Kilmister’s interview was over, the metal legend offered some Jack Daniel’s. “It was fucking 11:15 am,” Grohl observed. “I said, ‘Sure’.”
The composer also offered a few more … colorful details … about the undated meeting, during which they heard a new Motorhead LP and Dudley Moore’s comedy tapes.
“I will never forget every little detail of that day,” added Grohl. “Especially the black underwear, with a spider web and a black widow right where the stick is.”
Grohl is a notable disciple of Lemmy, having recruited the musician to play on his side project Probot and appear in the 2011 video “White Limo” by Foo Fighters. Grohl also invited Lemmy to the stage during an all-star Foo Fighters 2015 show, celebrating the first anniversary.
More recently, Grohl revealed that “No Son of Mine”, a song from the next Foo Fighters LP Midnight remedy, was inspired by the late Lemmy. “I would like [he] were alive to hear, because he would see how much influence he has been for me, “he said IT’S OK! Magazine.
Foo Fighters previewed their tenth album, which comes out on February 5, with the singles “Shame Shame” and “Waiting on a War”.
