“Chappelle’s Show” will be back on Netflix, according to the comedian. In a 10-minute video posted on Instagram on Wednesday night, Dave Chappelle announced that his main show will return to the streaming service on Friday.
“I asked you to stop watching the program and thank God Almighty for you, you did it. You did that program worthless because, without your eyes, it’s nothing,” Chappelle told the audience. “And when you stopped watching, they called me. And I took my name back and my license back and my program back and they paid me millions of dollars. Thank you very much.”
“Chappelle’s Show” was removed from Netflix last November, less than a month after its debut. Chappelle placed the order after allegedly unable to receive royalties for the show based on a contract he signed with Comedy Central and its parent company, ViacomCBS. He also stated that the program was licensed without his consent.
Chappelle opened the video, which shows him giving a standing presentation, discussing how he got COVID-19 last year. The comedian blamed the eagerness to act to catch the virus.
“I did it because at the beginning of the pandemic, I talked to a guy in the live entertainment business and said, ‘When can we get back to work?’ He said probably in 2022, “said Chappelle.” And I said, ‘There’s no way I can wait that long’ “
The ad video was recorded at Stubb’s Waller Creek in Austin, Texas, the place where Chappelle would perform before picking up the COVID-19.
He also touched on the Capitol riots. “Look at that crowd that told Colin Kaepernick that he can’t kneel down during a football game to try to beat a policeman to death with an American flag … They carried a Confederate flag around the roundabout. The Confederate Army didn’t even do that, “said Chappelle.
The video ends with a montage of clips from the “Chappelle Show”.
“Long live you guys. I’m going to ride with you until the wheels fall off,” Chappelle tells the audience to end her presentation.
