The Divisional Round starts Saturday afternoon with the best 1-on-1 match: Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams vs. Los Angeles Rams corner Jalen Ramsey.
Both are excellent at what they do.
Adams is a red zone monster, leading the NFL in TD receptions, and despite losing two games, he finished second in catches with 115 and fifth in yards with 1,374. Meanwhile, Ramsey was the top corner of the league, ranking first in permitted receptions when directed, allowed the least number of yards and was tied for sixth in forfeited TDs.
Before Saturday’s final showdown at Lambeau, Adams said he admires the top corner of the NFL cover, but is focused on his own game.
“I respect Jalen’s game,” said Adams, through the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “He’s at the top of the list, for sure. I think there are probably three or four super elite – that’s what I like to call them – corners, and he’s definitely one of those guys. He’s been playing at a high level, he’s very confident. He barks a lot, which increases his confidence. And he made a lot of plays. He definitely deserved it. He’s a good player. “
Despite Ramsey’s tendency to speak, Adams doesn’t expect much of a joke during the fight.
“With Jalen,” said Adams, “I don’t know how much conversation is going to happen. that we had before, he has respect for me. So there will be no disrespect or things going on, but it will probably heat up. “
Adams’ confidence comes from the fact that he leaves the scrimmage line better than any wide receiver currently playing in the NFL. This innate ability allows the star to go beyond the corners before they can get their hands on it and disrupt game time. This is also why it is the deadliest red zone receiving weapon.
Adams believes that this exit will allow him to produce in one-on-one clashes with Ramsey.
“It’s basically rooted in my confidence and the way I play,” said Adams. “There are certain guys who dictate or change the way they play based on who is playing, and that can still translate into success for them, but the way I play is, as I say, in the driver’s seat. “
The superlatives for both players are off the charts.
Ramsey allowed the least number of receiving yards (309) in coverage between 33 CBs with over 500 coverage snaps in the regular season, by Pro Football Focus. It also allowed for 50.0 percent coverage completion this season, including playoffs (lower T-2nd in the NFL, minimum 50 targets).
