Darius Rucker’s good deed surprises customers, SC restaurant servers

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC / Gray News) – Lowcountry musician and native Darius Rucker quietly treated everyone who dined at a restaurant he frequents with a free meal and also left a big tip for servers on Sunday morning, reported the WCSC.

The Grammy winner visited Mount Pleasant IHOP, where employees consider him a regular customer. After the meal, he approached general manager Stephen Vitale and asked about the payment of meals for everyone who was dining at the restaurant at that time.

“It was a full restaurant,” said Vitale. “There were a lot of people. I disappeared and he paid.”

He said Rucker also left a “very generous” tip for servers to share, but declined to provide a specific dollar amount.

“It caused a lot of emotion,” said Vitale. He said that many in the restaurant did not recognize Rucker, who wore a mask when he was not eating.

“We know him because he comes so often and we consider him a regular customer,” he said, adding that some who recognized Rucker thanked him for the gesture.

“It was a good day at IHOP,” said Vitale.
