Daniel Bryan is having another chance to win a Universal Championship match against Roman Reigns.
In this week’s episode of Talking Smack, it was announced that Bryan will face Jey Uso in a steel cage fight at SmackDown next Friday. If Bryan wins, he will fight for the Universal Reigns Championship in Fastlane. If Uso wins, Bryan has to recognize Reigns as the tribal chief, the head of the table, the best fighter on the planet, the undisputed universal champion and the main event at WrestleMania.
Paul Heyman said in Talking Smack that he had been authorized by Reigns to offer another match against Bryan’s Use. Bryan agreed, but wanted it to be a steel cage match. Bryan said that – if he loses to Uso – he will shake Reigns’ hand and recognize Reigns as the best fighter he has ever been in the ring with. Reigns agreed to make Bryan x I Use a steel cage fight.
Last night’s SmackDown was headed by Bryan vs. Use. Bryan would have gotten a chance at the Universal Reigns Championship if he won, but the match ended in a double count. Reigns then attacked Bryan while Bryan had Use on Yes Lock after the match. Bryan put Reigns on Yes Lock, but Uso gave Bryan a superkick. Reigns then hit Bryan with a spear and placed him in a guillotine.
Bryan won SmackDown’s Elimination Chamber at the Elimination Chamber last Sunday, but immediately had to fight for the Reigns’ Universal Championship. Reigns left Yes Lock and quickly defeated Bryan with a guillotine.
It was said on SmackDown last night that the original interim plans for Fastlane were the winner of Bryan’s Royal Rumble and Royal Rumble teaming up against Reigns & Usage. Edge didn’t look happy with Bryan potentially having a shot at the title before Edge challenged for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 37.
There was a segment behind the scenes at SmackDown last night, where Bryan said his chances of defeating Reigns are better than Edge’s. Bryan said that – with the rust on Edge’s ring and how long it took – he doesn’t know if Edge has what it takes to defeat Reigns.
Fastlane will take place on Sunday, March 21st. It is WWE’s last pay-per-view before WrestleMania 37.
