D’Angelo Russell tweeted Anthony Edwards through an injury to LaMelo Ball

Minnesota Timberwolves guard D’Angelo Russell sent a head-scratching tweet after news of LaMelo Ball’s injury last Sunday. According Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Ball is expected to miss the rest of the season with a fractured right wrist. The fracture is in Ball’s thumb area.

Despite this sad news, Russell immediately tweeted that his teammate Anthony Edwards, who was chosen first in the 2020 NBA Draft, should win this year’s Rookie of the Year award.

Ball was a pioneer in winning this year’s Rookie of the Year award, leading his newcomers to almost every statistic this season. Meanwhile, Edwards’ early games were not as hot as Ball’s, but he has regained his momentum since the Wolves switched coaches. Many NBA fans on social media reacted strongly to Russell’s heartless tweet as they felt it was an inappropriate tweet to send after such horrific news.

Russell himself suffered injuries throughout his career. This season, he missed most games due to an injury to his left knee, in which he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery. Minnesota is Russell’s fourth team, as he has been traded from team to team since arriving in the NBA.

Guard Timberwolves was called up by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2015 and was later traded to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Kyle Kuzma’s call-up rights. After an All-Star year with the Nets, D’Angelo Russell had to pack up and go to the Golden State Warriors, who negotiated with the Wolves the same year.
