D’Angelo has released three albums in the last 26 years, the last of 2014 Black Messiah with The Vanguard, and rumors of an impending EP have been running for, oh, at least two years at this point. If you were waiting for a sign of life from the beloved R&B star, your scheduled appearance in an upcoming battle of Verzuz may just be the sign you are looking for. On Sunday, Verzuz’s official Instagram account announced that D’Angelo will face “unannounced” friends on Saturday, February 27 at 8:00 pm ET. The show will be broadcast from Harlem’s historic Apollo Theater.
“Who do you think will face the King on February 27?”, Jokes the series, created by Timbaland and Swizz Beats, in the post. “It will certainly be a legendary night!” As for which “friends” are going to join D’Angelo, just ask yourself: who is the non-D’Angelo D’Angelo?
