MADISON (WKOW) – Public Health Madison & Dane County issued Emergency Order # 12 on Monday.
The order will take effect on January 13 at 12:01 pm and will run until February 10. The previous order was scheduled to expire on that date.
The order maintains many parts of Order # 11 and allows internal meetings of up to 10 people, with physical distance and facial coverage.
However, the new order increases the limit on open-air meetings to 50 people instead of 25.
“The number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 remains very high and new, more contagious virus variants are circulating in the world and in the United States,” said Janel Heinrich, director of PHMDC, in a statement. “We know we spent time out with other people is less risky than spending time together indoors, so we set limits to gather outside in recognition of this research. We ask that everyone continue to limit meetings in closed environments for the health and safety of the community. ”
When PHMDC issued Order No. 11 on December 16, the average seven-day cases were 171 and 135 people were hospitalized with COVID-19. On Monday, the average of seven-day cases is 213 and there are 71 people hospitalized with COVID-19. In December, 79 residents of Dane County died of COVID-19.
“Although we still have a large disease burden, Dane County is doing better than the state in number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 and dying from COVID-19,” said Dane County executive Joe Parisi. “This shows the success of our orders to prevent disease and save lives. “
