Lions coach Dan Campbell said Matthew Stafford’s trade talks are moving forward.

Campbell told Dave Birkett about the Detroit Free Press that the Stafford negotiations obtained “hot and heavy. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network adds that an exchange is expected to be agreed before the Super Bowl, although trade cannot really be consummated until the start of the league year in March.

Lions and Stafford have mutually agreed that Stafford will be negotiated, and the only remaining question is where he will go and how much the Lions will receive. The team is looking for at least one choice in the first round draft.

After Stafford is negotiated, Lions begin the long process of rebuilding a team that is almost at the bottom of the league in terms of overall talent now. The good news for Lions is that they will be rebuilding with a good amount of cover space and draft choices. Campbell and new general manager Brad Holmes must have ammunition to change things.
