Damian Lillard’s buzzer stuns Bulls

Not even the doorbell could end Dame Time at United Center.

Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard had 44 points against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday, ending with one of the craziest buzzers of the season.

With just 6.2 seconds remaining and the Blazers losing 122-120, a ball in the air reached Lillard’s hands after a series of strange exchanges. Lillard took the ball, ran a few steps to the right and disarmed an unbalanced 3-point step back on the 7-foot Bulls Lauri Markkanen.

It was the kind of scene that only a few players on the planet want to do. Fortunately for the Blazers, Lillard is absolutely one of those players. The All-Star guard had been making this type of pitch throughout the game:

“I had a big advantage in me, I got some space, I took a step back and that’s it,” said Lillard of the game’s winner after the game. “In these situations, I usually look at the clock and become very ambitious … it often doesn’t work, but today it just worked.”

Lillard finished with 15 of 26 shots and 8 of 17 with rebounds, while giving nine assists and five rebounds.

The fun continued in the Blazers’ locker room, where Lillard was soaked when he entered the door.

The win improves the Blazers’ record to 10-8, good for seventh place in the Western Conference.
