A Dallas police officer was hit by a driver who was reportedly drunk and killed on Saturday morning while blocking the scene of a previous highway accident, the Dallas Police Department said.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce that this morning at approximately 0125 [1:25 a.m.] one @DallasPD The policeman, working at the scene of an accident, was hit and killed by a DWI driver, “Chief Eddie Garcia tweeted.” Our department is in mourning again, but we are excited about the strength of your family. The officer was standing outside his patrol vehicle marked with emergency lights on the north lanes of the North Central Expressway at Walnut Hill Lane at about 1:45 am when a four-door Kia Forte driving at high speed hit him, the department said.
The officer was transported to Baylor Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

The driver, described as a 32-year-old black man, was unharmed and is awaiting police charges.

Meanwhile, authorities are questioning a passenger in her vehicle. She was also not injured in the collision.
