Dallas County adds 3,851 coronavirus cases, 10 deaths in a total of 2 days

Dallas County’s COVID-19 report on Sunday reflected a two-day total of 3,851 new coronavirus cases, bringing the county’s total positive results to more than 200,000.

The county also announced another 10 deaths, including three Dallas residents: a man in his 50s, a woman in his 60s and a woman in her 80s.

Four Mesquite residents also died, including an 80-year-old woman and three residents of long-term care facilities. It is not clear whether the three long-term care victims – two men and a woman in her 90s – lived in the same or different facilities.

The other victims who died were a Grand Prairie man in his 50s, a Rowlett man in his 70s and a Garland woman in his 70s. Of the 10 deaths reported on Sunday, all except the two men in their 50s have had underlying health problems.

Dr. Stephanie Collins, director of occupational health at Parkland Memorial Hospital, prepared a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine during a media event last month.

Sunday’s report included data for Friday and Saturday, officials said. Of the cases, 3,697 were confirmed and 154 were probable.

The new reported cases bring the county total to 200,011 – 178,174 confirmed and 21,837 probable. The death toll in the county is 1,661.

Health officials use hospitalizations, intensive care admissions and visits to emergency rooms as key indicators to track the real-time impact of COVID-19 in the county. The county will provide hospitalization data on Tuesday.

The county reported that, in the past 30 days, 5,971 children and staff members from more than 700 K-12 schools tested positive for COVID-19. In Dallas County, 102 long-term institutions have experienced active outbreaks of coronavirus – the highest since the pandemic began, officials said.

More than two-thirds of all confirmed cases requiring hospitalization have occurred in people under the age of 65, and diabetes has been an underlying condition in about a third of all hospitalized patients, according to the county.

Of the total confirmed COVID-19 deaths in the county, about 22% are associated with long-term care facilities.

State data

Across the state, an additional 16,045 cases and 50 deaths from COVID-19 were reported on Sunday. Texas has already reported 1,793,341 total cases and 27,917 deaths.

Of the new cases, 14,535 were confirmed and 1,510 were likely. The state notified 1,582,615 confirmed cases and 210,726 probable cases.

The state also added 46 oldest confirmed cases and four oldest probable cases that were recently reported by laboratories.

There are 12,563 COVID-19 patients in Texas hospitals, including 3,751 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

On Sunday, 23.92% of patients in the region of the hospital that covers the Dallas-Fort Worth area were patients with COVID-19, according to the state panel.

The statewide seven-day average positivity rate for molecular testing, based on the date of collection of the test sample, was 20.21% on Saturday. State health officials said that using data based on when people were tested provides the most accurate rate of positivity.

For antigen tests, the positivity rate for the same period was 12.18%.

Tarrant County

Tarrant County reported 4,367 cases of coronavirus and 13 new deaths on Sunday.

The latest victims were a North Richland Hills woman in her 90s, a woman in River Oaks in her 80s, a man in Bedford in her 80s, a man in Haltom City in her 80s, a man in Lakeside in her 80s, a woman in Arlington in her 70s, a man from Haltom City in her 70s, a man and woman from Fort Worth in her 60s, a man in Arlington in her 50s, a man in Fort Worth in in her 50s, a man in the White Settlement in her 40s and a woman in Arlington in her 30s. All but one victim had underlying health problems, the county said.

The new reported cases bring the county total to 157,732, including 137,518 confirmed cases, 20,214 probable cases and 114,800 recoveries. The death toll is 1,525.

According to Sunday’s figures on the county panel, 1,399 people are hospitalized with the virus.

Collin County

The state added 942 coronavirus cases and a new COVID-19 fatality to Collin County total on Sunday. The county has already recorded 50,954 cases and a death toll of 378.

No details about the latest victims were available.

Of the new cases, 940 were confirmed and two were likely. Collin County recorded 45,674 confirmed cases and 5,280 probable cases. According to state data, the municipality has 5,365 active cases and recorded 40,309 recoveries.

The county coronavirus panel provides only the total number of hospitalizations, now at 527.

Denton County

Denton County officials said they would no longer release data on the coronavirus on Sundays.

As of Saturday, the county had reported 39,792 cases, including 12,952 that were active and 26,622 that were recovered. The death toll was 218.

Other counties

The Texas Department of Health Services has taken over the reports from these other counties in North Texas. In some counties, new data may not be reported every day.

The last numbers are:

  • Rockwall County: 6,270 cases (5,208 confirmed and 1,062 probable), 54 deaths.
  • Kaufman County: 9,306 cases (8,125 confirmed and 1,181 probable), 124 deaths.
  • Ellis County: 13,261 cases (11,675 confirmed and 1,586 likely), 176 deaths.
  • Johnson County: 11,135 cases (9,872 confirmed and 1,263 likely), 163 deaths.
