The seven-day continuous average of COVID-19 daily cases continues its decline.

The Utah Department of Health reported on Sunday that the trend for positive tests is 1,464 per day. That number is slightly lower than just a week ago, when the seven-day average number of positive cases was 1,794. In the previous week, it was 2,548.

Another positive trend lies in the number of coronavirus cases that UDOH considers “not recovered” in the previous two weeks. At the beginning of the year, the number of unrecovered cases was around 50 thousand. But in the past two days, it was less than 40,000.

This trend, along with the seven-day average of daily cases, indicates that Utah is seeing fewer people sick with COVID-19.

In Salt Lake County, the seven-day continuous average of daily cases was 491.14. It is the first time since October 14 that the moving average has dropped below 500 in the county.

Here is a more detailed look at the numbers reported on Sunday:

Vaccinations reported the day before / total vaccinations • 10,176 / 310,692.

Cases reported the previous day • 1,194.

Deaths reported the day before • Two.

The two people who died from COVID-19 were an Iron Country woman over 85 and a Weber County man between the ages of 45 and 64. The woman was hospitalized at the time of her death, while the man was not.

Hospitalizations reported the previous day • 41. Reduction of 17 compared to Saturday. Of the 413 people currently hospitalized, 131 are in intensive care units – eight fewer than on Saturday.

Although general hospitalizations have decreased, the number of people hospitalized because they may have COVID-19 has increased. UDOH reported that as of Sunday, 106 people with COVID symptoms but without a positive test are currently hospitalized. That’s more than 92 on Saturday.

Tests reported the day before • 6,472.

Percentage of positive tests • 18.4%. This is higher than the 16.9% seven-day average.

Totals to date • 346,624 cases; 1,665 deaths; 13,468 hospitalizations; 2,024,647 tests.
