Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3 source code allegedly already on auction after CD Projekt hack • Eurogamer.net

After the developer declined the ransom requests.

The source code stolen from Cyberpunk 2077, the free card fighter Gwent and an unpublished version of The Witcher 3 are already up for auction after developer CD Projekt refused to yield to hacker ransom requests after a breach of its servers.

Yesterday, CD Projekt released a statement claiming that an “unidentified actor” gained unauthorized access to his internal network over the weekend and collected a series of data. A note that accompanied the attack gave the developer 48 hours to “reach an agreement” about the source code and documents – related to accounting, administration, legal, HR and investor relations – stolen from their servers, otherwise it would start to sell or leak them online.

In turn, CD Projekt pledged to “not give in to the demands or negotiate with the actor, knowing that this could eventually lead to the release of the committed date”. He also said he was taking “the necessary steps to mitigate the consequences of such a release, in particular addressing any parts that may be affected.”

With 48 hours elapsed, however, it seems that hackers are preparing to keep their word. Tom’s Hardware is reporting (based on information from vx-underground) that samples of source code for Gwent have already been leaked online, with the complete code – along with Cyberpunk 2077 and unreleased files, possibly related to the next generation of The Witcher 3 – set to be auctioned today. The starting bid for the full cache is set at $ 1,000.

CD Projekt has not yet responded to this latest development, but has recommended that former employees take precautions after the spill in a update of the tweet posted last night. “So far,” he noted, “we have no evidence that any of your personal data has been accessed.”
