Cyberpunk 2077 speedrunners are racing for sex

Now that Cyberpunk 2077 has been in the hands of players for a few weeks, progress has been made in two groups of talented but different idiots. This week, modders created a mod to change their hairstyle, as V is unable to do that after leaving character creation. Let’s see what the speedrunners are up to. Oh, they are rushing to have sex as soon as possible. Of course they are.

This particular speedrun for having sex in Cyberpunk 2077 comes to you via “Tomatoanus”, a speedrunner who also ran sexual races in Fallout 4 and Fallout New Vegas. For Cyberpunk 2077, he managed to get to the act in an impressive 10 minutes and 27 seconds.

Most of the race is not very hot, of course. As Tomato explains, there are some scenes that cannot be ignored at the beginning of the game and that occupy about half of the execution time. After that, he is able to use a flaw called “wrist slip”. I am tempted to say that it is exactly what you think, but, given the context, it may not be.

Here, witness him climb a building using his fists as small propellers as they could.

When switching between a gun and his fists quickly, he enters a state where the punch propels him forward. Why not?

This is not the only hacky technology on display here. It can also use what is called “drop damage cancellation” and yes, this is what you think it is. After slipping off a ledge, V avoids falling damage by landing on a street sign first and then sliding to the floor. With these combined powers, Tomato is able to escape the prologue area, where it should be confined. After that, he is able to slide his fist up to a love bar faster than his feet could take him naturally, proposing one of the “JoyToy” sex workers at 10:27.

Tomatoanus explains that the tricks on display here are the ones that helped Cyberpunk speedrunners take that specific route from a two-hour completion time last week to their 10 minutes and change this week. It’s silly, to be sure, but Tomato’s speedrun videos are pretty cool. He explains the how and why of each trick quickly but clearly, so that I always learn a little about the game.

In other news from Cyberpunk 2077, it has been quite problematic at launch. But it’s not all bad, as you can read more about Graham’s analysis of Cyberpunk 2077.
