Earlier today, CD Projekt Red announced that the second major patch for Cyberpunk 2077 will be postponed until the end of March and cited a recent ransomware attack, as well as the patch’s broad scope as reasons. The company did not go into details, but a report of Bloomberg cites anonymous sources who say things are even worse than we probably thought. For employees, who already face the appalling prospect of hackers exposing personally identifiable information, “most” have been blocked on their workstations in the past two weeks.
With unpaid ransom, developers are unable to log into the VPN to access the tools they need at home, and apparently they were asked to send their computers to the IT department so they could be scanned for malware. Cyberpunk 2077 was already an especially problematic project, and the recent attack is only making things worse. If you were planning to take a trip to Night City as soon as the main issues were resolved – or planning a replay as soon as the DLC or next-generation updates arrive – you will probably have to stretch those plans even later in the year.
