Cyberpunk 2077 has lost 79% of its players since the launch peak

Cyberpunk 2077, the hottest RPG title on CD Projekt Red, saw an exponential increase in its player base shortly after its release. With 1 million simultaneous players on Steam in December, the Polish video game developer sold more than 13 million copies of Cyberpunk at its launch.

But shortly thereafter, things seemed to go downhill for the game, as the community encountered a plethora of bugs in the game and performance issues. Players on console platforms, such as Sony’s Playstation and Google’s Stadia, began demanding refunds amid various performance issues that occurred in the game.

According to data from githyp.com, Cyberpunk has seen a drop in its player base, which has counted only 225,000 active players since last weekend.

This is the first time that we have witnessed a Triple-A rated game undergoing a major setback shortly after launch. The result also prompted Sony to withdraw the title from its Playstation Store along with issuing refunds.

When compared to the last major CDPR title, The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 had the most dubious start. After launch, The Witcher project took a 79% drop in its player base, which the newly released RPG has already encountered. As previously discussed here on TalkEsport, CDPR may soon find itself in another dilemma, collective action.
