Despite working terribly on basic PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, someone has now found a way to make Cyberpunk 2077 playable on Nintendo Switch. And while the thought of Cyberpunk being played on a switch might make you think that it would make Nintendo’s portable console hybrid almost explode, the way the game is accessible on the platform is not in the way you expected.
Coming through Nintendrew, YouTuber found a very strange solution that results in the Nintendo Switch being able to play Cyberpunk 2077. As you can expect, the platform cannot run the game natively for a number of reasons, so how exactly was it able to accomplish this feat? Well, in the Google Stadia steps.
Yes, Nintendrew basically hacked his switch to allow the installation of Android software. From this point, Google Stadia can be downloaded to the platform, since, technically, it is now an Android device. The means by which Nintendrew accomplishes this feat are not very complex and can also be easily accomplished by you, if you decide to do so.
What’s intriguing about Cyberpunk 2077 running on the Switch this way is that it still allows players to use Joy-Con or a Nintendo Pro Controller to play. You don’t need to connect a different type of controller to the switch in any way or anything like that. Once Stadia is installed, you will be able to play through the service, as you normally would on the Switch.
As for how Cyberpunk 2077 runs on the Switch, well, it’s really quite impressive. Again, since this is being played through Stadia, all of the hardware that is being used to run the game is elsewhere, so the switch itself is not as reliable for performance. Based on the images shown from the game in action, it even appears to run at stable 720p in portable mode with 1080p being produced if you connect it to your TV.
Obviously, it is important to note that if you try to do this with your own switch, there is a small chance that you can block your unit. In addition, if you have a warranty linked to the console, it can void it instantly. So make sure this is something you really want to do for yourself if you try.
There have been a ton of other strange occurrences like this that have been discovered in relation to Cyberpunk 2077 since the game was released earlier this month. If you’d like to check out some of these stories, you can find them on our coverage hub here.
