CVS gives patients wrong dose of COVID-19 vaccine :: WRAL.com

– A CVS in Massachusetts is contacting patients who received the COVID-19 vaccine at their location to inform them of a dosing error.

The pharmacy said a limited number of patients who received the Modern vaccine on Monday inadvertently received lower doses than they should have.

Carol Kennedy Hurley said she is still shaking her head after the pharmacist notified her of the dosing error.

“You know, you’re kind of in shock,” said Hurley.

CVS said that a limited number of patients who received the vaccine on Monday at the Central Street site received 0.3 milliliters of the Modern vaccine instead of the normal 0.5 milliliter dose.

“So I think the basic word is trust,” said Hurley. “This is what it really means, and from the start with this whole pandemic, who do you trust?”

Doctors say that despite the mess, there is no reason for patients like Hurley to receive an additional dose, and she can still receive her second injection next month, as planned.

“We know, because we are human, that errors can occur, especially when we are trying to vaccinate with two different vaccines,” said Dr. Gabriela Andujar Vasquez.

CVS issued a written statement that says in part: “We have contacted all affected patients to apologize and answer any questions they may have” and “we report to the appropriate regulatory agencies.”

Hurley said that no one apologized to her.

“They just gave me the information and it was really indifferent,” she said.

CVS said it has since implemented changes to ensure that future setbacks are avoided.
