New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who faced intense scrutiny on Wednesday after a former aide accused him of sexual harassment, asked the then Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh to undergo a lie detector amid to allegations of sexual assault in 2018.
Cuomo spoke in September 2018 amid Senate hearings about Kavanaugh’s possible appointment to court. At the time, Kavanaugh’s prospects were in doubt after the claims of Christine Blasey Ford, who testified under oath that the judge sexually assaulted her at a 1982 party when they were high school students.

In a statement addressed to then President Donald Trump, Cuomo said he found Ford’s testimony “very convincing”. He pointed out that Ford, unlike Kavanaugh, had taken a polygraph test and called on Trump to “insist” that the judge take a test.
“Here is a basic fact that seriously injures Judge Kavanaugh: why doesn’t he do the polygraph? Dr. Ford did,” said Cuomo. “If he doesn’t take the polygraph test, it’s great,” she said. It is the only powerful piece of evidence that seriously undermines your credibility and the credibility of your Republican supporters, including you. You can and should ask him to take the test.
“If he refuses, you must cancel the appointment,” added Cuomo. “It will show at least a little bit of justice on your part. If you don’t insist that Judge Kavanaugh do a polygraph, it will be further proof that you are putting political motivation above your constitutional obligation. Don’t help and encourage a lie. . Demand a polygraph. “
Kavanaugh has repeatedly denied the charge and was later upheld in the Supreme Court, despite strong opposition. The New York Post was the first to revive Cuomo’s comments.
Lindsey Boylan, a former Cuomo aide and current candidate for Manhattan district president, has accused the governor of several cases of sexual harassment and unwanted touching during his term in office. Boylan claimed that Cuomo invited her to play strip poker during a 2017 flight, kissed her on the lips during a meeting at her New York office and “went out of his way” to touch her.

Cuomo’s press secretary, Caitlin Girouard, rejected Boylan’s claims and quoted former advisers who said the strip poker conversation “did not happen”.
“As we said before, Boylan’s claims about inappropriate behavior are simply false,” said Girouard in a statement.
