Blue state governors should have made an effort to “manage” American citizens during the coronavirus pandemic, rather than resorting to the closure of the economy, Fox Business Network senior correspondent Charles Gasparino said on Tuesday.
“Listen, you get the government you pay for. Anyone can block a state. Any idiot can say, ‘No more business, everyone stays home;’ Gasparino told “America’s Newsroom”.
Gasparino said American citizens should “pay” civil servants like California Governor Gavin Newsom, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to “manage” the crisis by identifying the “most vulnerable populations”, “understanding how many companies can remain open” and determining the limitations of their operations to keep the economy afloat amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“This is management 101,” said Gasparino.
However, this is not being done in New York or California, Gasparino said, before noting that people fled these states because they did not “prepare to protect the most vulnerable from a sudden increase in cases during the winter months” .
“All he really did was close the deal and destroy livelihoods,” said Gasparino.
STATE WITH ONE OF THE MOST STRICT BLOCKINGS IN THE COUNTRY HAS THE MOST CASES OF COVID
Gasparino reacted to the increase in COVID-19 cases in California, despite unprecedented blockages and restrictions aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus.
Earlier this week, the state exceeded 2 million confirmed cases and beds in many intensive care units are dangerously low. In Los Angeles County, the epicenter of the virus in California, the county’s Department of Public Health said on Thursday that about 14,000 residents tested positive for COVID-19 each day and hospitals admitted 1,000 new coronavirus patients daily.
On Thursday, the state reported nearly 24,000 deaths and more than 39,000 new cases; 312 deaths have been reported in the 24-hour period since Wednesday.
A health expert called the wave a “viral tsunami,” reported the Daily Mail. State leaders have contacted Australia and Taiwan to fill 3,000 temporary healthcare vacancies as hospitals remain full.
Earlier this month, Newsom, a Democrat, warned that strict blocking measures would be enacted regionally when the ICU bed capacity drops below the 15% mark. Days later, Los Angeles County was placed under the new blockade orders.
Gasparino said that closing companies “is not management”. In addition, Gasparino compared how Florida is being managed with New York and California, where the economy of the State of the Sun is open while hospitals are not crowded with infected patients.
“Gov. [Ron] DeSantis is running, Governor Newsom is just closing things, “said Gasparino.

Gasparino continued, “These are not good governors. I mean, listen, Gavin Newsom can look good and sound good. You know, Governor Cuomo looks good. You know, he was very good during the early stages of the pandemic. management, in managing this crisis, keeping as many businesses open as possible, having the means of subsistence preserved while we deal with it, they all stay anywhere between a D and an F. “
