Cavanaugh, Cuomo’s recruiting and appointments officer since September, was rushed to Bellevue Hospital with several cuts to the back of the neck.

The attacker, however, fled west on East 48th Street and was still at large on Thursday night, police said.

The terrible daytime attack took place about six blocks from the governor’s offices in New York.

Sources said they believed Cavanaugh was returning home from work at the time.

Two witnesses saw the unprovoked attack and alerted police, law enforcement sources said.

Cavanaugh needed stitches and a source with knowledge of her situation said she was aware and that hospital staff were “taking care of her”.

The NYPD released surveillance photos and images of the suspect near the scene, bald and wearing a long black coat, with a face mask around his chin.
