C&S Wholesale Grocers, which has a large presence in the northern tip of Mauldin, plans to close a factory there this spring, according to the state.

C&S operates two facilities in the Greenville area, according to its website, one on Forrester Drive and the other on BiLo Boulevard. Although the two neighboring facilities have Greenville addresses, they are located within the city limits of Mauldin.

The closure of C&S is scheduled for May 7, affecting 366 positions, and a layoff is also expected in the operations of the company Mauldin on March 6, affecting 93 employees, according to the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce .

A C&S spokesman did not respond to questions from The Greenville News about the projected shutdown and layoff and instead responded with an e-mailed statement.

“It is a longstanding practice for C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc. not to comment on issues regarding the initiatives, which have not been publicly announced,” said Lauren La Bruno, vice president of communications, change management and community relations. “However, I can say that the Company is committed to meeting our customers’ needs to the fullest and remains focused on taking the necessary steps to achieve our overall strategic initiatives.”
