Crucial’s X6 line of durable USB-C SSDs now has a whopping 4TB model

Crucial’s range of medium-sized portable USB-C SSDs in the X6 line has some new configurations starting today: one for large spenders who need a lot of storage and one for people on a budget. In addition to its 1TB and 2TB models, there is now a 4TB SSD that you can buy for $ 489.95. Its price is higher than the current cost for two of its 2 TB models ($ 190 each via Crucial directly), but like most SSDs, it probably won’t be long before it drops below the original asking price. As for the economical option, you can get a 500 GB model for $ 69.95.

Back to the 4 TB model, you will have a hard time finding a better price for so much storage on a more compact SSD, which could make it a great option for people with large photo or video libraries who don’t want to juggle multiple drives . It can also be a convenient solution for storing all your PS4 or Xbox One games for easy access when connected to a PS5 or Xbox Series X / S. It is listed as compatible with Windows 10, macOS, Android and consoles.

Although Crucial has beaten the competition to accommodate more storage (and because of its claim to survive falls on carpets up to 6.5 feet), it is not the fastest portable SSD on the market. It states read speeds of up to 800 MB / s for the 4 TB model, but lower capacities offer sequential read speeds of just 540 MB / s. If you want something faster, Crucial’s latest generation X8 portable SSDs, which are also drop-proof, offer sequential read speeds of up to 1,050 MB / s and sequential write speeds of up to 1,000 MB / s, but for a big increase in price. Western Digital’s latest My Passport portable SSD and Samsung’s T7 also provide these speeds, although Samsung has the advantage with the T7’s thinnest size.
