A few dozen people gathered at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday to protest investment in the Robinhood app and harass Wall Street traders amid the continuing chaos of GameStop shares.
Several of the protesters were seen following people coming out of the building, shouting “Shame!” and “Eat the rich”.
“How much money do you make?” one of the protesters asked repeatedly.
Two other people were seen entering the Trump Building across the street to avoid the crowd.
The group held up signs reading “Tax Wall Street Trades” and shouted “I want my money. I want it now. “
“We want a free market”, they shouted.
Screams of “F – k Robinhood” and “Robinhood have to go” also rang out after the stock trading app restricted the purchase of shares in GameStop and other companies on Thursday, initiating a class action lawsuit and calling for an investigation legislators.
Robinhood said later that he would allow “limited purchases” of these titles from Friday.
Small investors, backed by Reddit’s / r / wallstreetbets page, skyrocketed the price of several cheap stocks like GameStop by buying it in bulk after they learned that hedge funds were “short selling” the stock or betting that it would fail.
The saga, which pits novice investors against the Wall Street establishment, has raised concerns among lawmakers, and the two chambers of Congress are now expected to hold hearings at a later date.
