CPS Energy CEO says the outages are almost resolved, working to slow down the billing system

SANTO ANTÓNIO – Power was restored to even more San Antonians overnight and the disruption is almost resolved after this week’s devastating winter storm.

CPS Energy CEO Paula Gold-Williams said Saturday morning during a briefing that the remaining interruptions are very low and are not related to winter weather, but due to equipment failure or other problems.

During the night, however, 1,630 customers living near Cupples Road and Menefee Boulevard came to a standstill after a car hit one of the poles, according to Gold-Williams. The service of these customers has been restored.

At around 10am, the CPS outage map shows that less than 100 customers are experiencing an outage. You can see the latest news on outages in the area here.

Gold-Williams said the energy company is also looking to help customers with their next bill, as concerns about a potential spike emerged after this week’s climate crisis.

“We have some challenges that we knew would happen with the cost that came up during this period,” said Gold-Williams. “We are looking at the billing system, we are really trying to slow down this billing system.”

The “Manage My Account” portal on the CPS website will be down for a period of time, and Gold-Williams said the energy company is looking to fix the system and remove last week’s impacts on utility bills.

It is unclear how long the system will be inactive and customers are not expected to pay their bills now. Customers will also not be disconnected for not paying the bill, according to Gold-Williams.

Going forward, Gold-Williams apologized profusely during Saturday’s briefing on behalf of the energy company after the winter climate crisis.

“I am personally sorry. CPS Energy personally regrets, ”said Gold-Williams. “We don’t want to see that again, but we don’t really control the weather patterns that occur. But, we will make every effort and beyond to come back, be self-critical and look for ways to do better.
