Cox announces that Utahns 65+ can now receive a COVID-19 vaccine

SALT LAKE CITY – In his monthly briefing, Governor Spencer Cox announced on Thursday that Utahns aged 65 to 69 are now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine immediately.

The change, which is possible due to the increase in doses delivered to Utah, occurs almost two weeks before the planned age for vaccines expands.

Cox said the state had vaccinated 62% of eligible residents by Thursday morning. He added that the percentages in some municipalities are even higher.

Since some counties have more doses available than others, Cox asks for patience for those who wish to get a vaccine appointment.

“We ask for your continued patience as this will flood the phone lines and servers, and more and more people will try to sign up,” said Cox.

The governor added that March 1 will remain the scheduled date for Utah residents with underlying medical conditions to become eligible for vaccination.
