SALT LAKE CITY – As more vaccines are distributed in Utah, Governor Spencer Cox announced on Thursday that an expansion of residents will be eligible to receive them.

In his weekly press conference on the COVID-19 response, Cox praised the weekly increase of 95,674 doses – adding that Utah has already administered more doses than the number of people who tested positive.
“We are trying to be more viral than the virus and this is happening,” said Cox.
Looking at March and April, Cox says he’s looking better than he thought. Projections show that Utah could receive about 200,000 vaccines per week, a significant increase from 33,000 per week.

“Again, I want to make it clear that these are just projections,” said Cox. “But they are important projections because they allow us to start planning for a big increase in March and April.”
With that, Cox announced that vaccine eligibility will be reduced from 70 years or older to 65 or older starting in March.
The new order includes anyone aged 18 or over with comorbidities who are most at risk of contracting the coronovirus.
