The Week 17 game between the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys got off to a lively start, with players on both sides clashing at the start of the game.
With about 4 minutes left in the first quarter, Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis and Giants tight end Kaden Smith were involved in an incident after a 2-yard play on Sterling Shepard.

Lewis head-butted Smith with his own helmet and the rigid tip fell to the floor. Lewis was signaled by unnecessary harshness and laughed after the play, probably thinking that Smith could have failed after head butting to sell him to the referees.
The Giants had a 6-3 lead after Shepard’s touchdown on New York’s first attempt at the game. The Cowboys would score a field goal after Wayne Gallman’s fumble.

The game had implications in the playoffs for both teams.
For the Giants, if the Cowboys win and Washington lose, the team is in the postseason with an NFC East title to place in the trophy box. The Cowboys need to beat the Giants and Washington must lose or draw or the Cowboys can draw and Washington loses for the team to win the division and reach the playoffs.
