We heard yesterday that Dak Prescott and the Cowboys resumed negotiations on a long-term extension with the March 9 franchise brand deadline approaching. Dallas fans will be happy to know that it looks like these negotiations are going well.
The lectures are “progressing” and have been “more productive than they have been” in previous months, sources say to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News. Obviously, if they don’t agree to a deal, the Cowboys will score Prescott and then have until July to get something right, but the word recently has been that Jerry Jones expects to close something faster than that to give clarity to the team when entering the free agency.
Interestingly, Watkins also clarifies a little more about Prescott’s second surgery in December. This procedure was apparently to “clean up previous problems in the right ankle” and was not related to the devastating fracture he suffered in that same ankle in week 5.
Watkins notes that team officials say it was only “to strengthen the ankle” and not a setback or a new injury. In addition, he writes that Prescott is expected to be ready for the training camp in July. In yesterday’s report, we heard that Prescott is not looking at the top Patrick Mahomes, but is probably looking for something close to $ 40 million a year.
Mahomes’ new deal gave him $ 45 million a year, and Deshaun Watson obtained approximately US $ 39 million in its extension. No matter what happens, it seems that things are finally moving in the right direction after a long stalemate.
