It was said on Friday that the Cowboys had dismissed defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and the team has already announced the move.

Nolan joined the team after Mike McCarthy was hired as a head coach at the beginning of last year. He changed the scheme the Cowboys used in the past and the unit’s performance was poor for much of the season.

The Cowboys also announced that they had fired defensive line coach Jim Tomsula.

“I appreciate my relationship with Mike and Jim, and I am grateful for the contributions they both made to our team in difficult circumstances in 2020,” McCarthy said in a statement. “These are never easy decisions to make and we wish them and their families the best in the future.”

The Cowboys have given offensive coordinator Kellen Moore a new deal to prevent him from taking over as coach of Boise State, so Nolan’s move is likely to represent the biggest change for the coaching staff this off-season.
