Covid Update: The latest information looks at the effectiveness of nasal spray in helping to kill the corona

More reports and evidence are emerging around the effectiveness of nasal sprays in helping with COVID-19. So much so that a virus laboratory in Surrey announced its new tests investigating how it could help with the new coronavirus.

The innate immune system is the first line of defense against the invasion of pathogens in the body.

Pankaj Sharma, Professor of Neurology and Director of the Royal Holloway Cardiovascular Research Institute, said: “Any intervention to treat the coronavirus – the virus responsible for COVID-19 is welcome.

“The fact that a relatively easy and simple nasal spray can be an effective treatment is welcome news and offers a significant advance in our therapeutic arsenal against this devastating disease.”

Ena’s Respiratory Administrative Director, Dr Christophe Demaison said: “We were impressed with the effectiveness of our treatment.

“By increasing the ferrets’ natural immune response with our treatment, we saw rapid eradication of the virus.

“If humans respond in a similar way, the benefits of treatment are twofold.

“Individuals exposed to the virus would likely eliminate it quickly, with treatment ensuring that the disease does not progress beyond mild symptoms.

“This is particularly relevant for vulnerable members of the community.
