That was what Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Saturday afternoon, during the celebration of a new vaccination site in the Bronx.
“The Bronx will help lead the way, lead the way in the recovery of New York City,” he said.
When the Co-Op City website reaches full strength, de Blasio says that 1,000 will be vaccinated every day in the community.
“What a difference it will make,” he said.
According to the mayor, Co-Op City is one of the first places to vaccinate elderly people at home.
“Now that we have the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, we can reach our elderly people who live at home,” he said.
50 elderly people who stayed at home have already been vaccinated at Co-Op City.
The number of vaccinated New Yorkers now exceeds 3 million.
In the early hours of Saturday, the Javits Center began accepting appointments 24 hours a day, in an effort to vaccinate more New Yorkers.
The state vaccination center went into 24-hour mode.
Made possible by the Johnson & Johnson vaccine approved last Saturday, the doses started arriving in New York during the week.
The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is unique, making it easier to vaccinate people quickly.
Many were fortunate enough to get an appointment on Saturday morning.
In addition, there was promising news from the mayor, as he is expected to make an announcement about secondary schools – and when they will be able to return to face-to-face learning – next week.
The news comes as positivity rates in the area continue to decline slowly.
High schools returned last week.
The mayor says the goal is to get all students back to face-to-face learning, with full-day classes, five days a week, for the beginning of the next school year, in September.
