3,725 deaths were reported on Tuesday, exceeding the previous 3,656 – the last set on December 16 – according to the latest data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

Meanwhile, some leaders demanded that the vaccine effort be accelerated, as more than 124,000 Americans are now in hospital beds.
